Tips on Buying Cars: Was it legal to sell me this car?, nissan sentra, salvage title

Question
Hello. I was wondering if you could help me since I can not seem to find the information I am looking for anywhere. About 5 months ago I bought a 2004 Nissan Sentra (along with a $750 warranty). The titled is a salvage title (even though I did not get a very good deal like I am now finding out I should have). I was having engine problems. The guy who sold it to me told me he would contact the warranty people and take care of everything for me. I ended up paying him $400 for a head gasket(i think thats what it was called) and a few smaller things as well. Recently I hit a curb. When I took it in to have work done (about $2400 worth) I was told that the wiring for the airbags was cut. They told me at the body shop that their was engine troubles. my most recent mechanic is telling me that the wires for the antilock brakes was cut. He also told me that the catylitic converter was scraped out. I beleive that is what he said, I really do not know anything about cars. However, people are telling me that it is not legal to sell me the car with out anti lock brakes and with out the abs being hooked up. Although he did tell me that both of these were working and that he fixed it after salvage himself. What do you think I should do in this situation? Thank you for your time! Amy

Answer
Hi Amy,
Sorry you are having all these problems. Firstly, did you know whe it was sold to you that it was a salvage title? It is legal to sell it with that type of title if it is disclosed to you. No ABS brakes? Not all cars have ABS brakes. My biggest concern is it is without an airbag. I am not an attorney, but i believe it is illegal in most states to drive without airbags after a certain year vehicle. And if he sold you an extended warranty why were you paying so much money for things that should probably been covered? Please give me some more details and i will try to give you a few more answers. Also, it is definitely illegal not to have a catalytic converter in every state.
