Tips on Buying Cars: returning a car, returning a car, unfortunatelly

Question
my husband and I just bought a used car from a private party. the former owner told us that the car has a 6 cylinder motor and we never checked that before signing the bill of sale. we purchased it 5 days ago. today we realized that the engine has only 5 cylinders and we overpayed around $2000. we are wondering if there is any possibility to get this money difference back or return the car??the bill of sale unfortunatelly does not say the size of engine.we knew it only from a verbal conversation with the seller and we offer him a prize for a 6 cylinder car. now we feel really stupid we never checked that but we just trusted the guy and that was actually the only question we had when we called him abut this car. what can we do? thank you for your answer!

Answer
In nearly every state in the U.S., the purchase of a car from a private seller is strictly "buyer beware;" unless you have written proof that you were defrauded, there's likely very little you can do to get your money back.  You should check with your state's government agency that regulates such purchases (here in NY, it's the Attorney General's office) just to see if they can offer some help.  If I were in your shoes, I'd contact a lawyer immediately to see if he or she can offer any advice.
