Tips on Buying Cars: Red Tag New Car (2007) Negotiation, new car price, tag price

Question
QUESTION: Hi Ray,

I'm looking to buy a 2007 Honda Accord Sedan LX from a Honda dealer in my neighborhood. Zip Code is 11204. They said this is a new car. Price on the red tag is $17,545. The price on the original sticker lists $20,500. The salesman at the dealer told me the red tag price is the lowest they'll sell it for. Does that mean they won't negotiate? How can I bring the price lower? An ideal price for me would be around $16,200. Do you think this is possible.

Extra Info:
Manual Transmission (They said this is why it hasn't been sold, should I suspect other issues?)

Interior is pretty standard - not leather, plastic dashboard, cd/radio equipment, no sun-roof. But everything does look new.

ANSWER: Hi Felix

I did a little buying  study in your area and found you can buy an automatic LX  with 5 to 10K in the $13,000 range a manual should be lowered by another $1000 to $1,500. Is there a link I can view this car to look at options to justify the price ?

I dont think it's such a hot deal your offered, the only positive will be if vehicle has never been registered which means you will have full warranty from the day you take delivery.

As for salesman telling you non negotiable, take that statement with a grain of salt, whats important here is you learn how to negotiate, go to my website    http://www.usedcartips.org/  and navigate to " how dealers negotiate " and how you " negotiate " study and feel free to ask more questions.

SUMMARY... Dealer wants to give you a $3000. discount on a vehicle thats going on 2 years old, from just the details you provided, dont bite, it's not worth anywhere near that kind of money.

By the way, the salesman said there are no finance charges and tax. Is there anything special to this or do a lot of dealer do this as an extra incentive? This is one of the reasons why I keep going back to this place.

I took it upon myself to phone the dealer for details , there are things you dont understand .

Salesman said no finance charges or tax ,,,lol,,, you will also be hit with destination charges and DMV.

Rather than me going into long detail, leave your phone number and best time to contact if you want, make sure you check the make private box or you phone number will be plastered all over the Internet.
