Tips on Buying Cars: lease of new car, kind of game, time is of the essence

Question
hello jeff,
last month my husband and i leased a new vehicle. we traded in a car and the dealership agreed to pay off 15,500 of prior lease. they said they would mail the bank the 15,500 and we would just have to pay the rest.which was only a balance of 200. the bank called us and said the dealership was going to  pay the remaining 200 and we would just pay the dealership? So, we called dealership and they said yes, we paid the 15,500 and send us a check for the 200.
A week later the previous leased bank calls and says the 15,500 was never paid and now we have a blemish on credit report because it is late?  They lied to us? So we called dealership and was like WTF! They said we can't pay off your car until we get the remaining 200?  We were like, you said you paid off the 15,500 and we just needed to mail you the 200. why didn't they just tell us from the begining we needed to pay them the difference?
Can you tell me what kind of game they are playing? Also, even now that they ruined our credit, do we have the right to return the vehicle before 30 days?
thank you.

Answer
This situation is beyond advice from someone like myself, except to tell you this:

YOU NEED TO CONTACT A LAWYER IMMEDIATELY!!

I can tell you that it's going to come down to what you have in writing, as opposed to what the dealer may have told you, or what you thought the dealer said.  Get an appointment with an attorney and bring all the paperwork you might have.  Now turn off your computer and call a lawyer within the next five minutes (seriously, I'm not kidding- time is of the essence).  Good luck.
