Tips on Buying Cars: Returning a car, motor vehicle department, returning a car

Question
I purchased a used car about 24 hours ago.  I have decided it isn't what I want.  I am in Arkansas and was wondering if I had 72 hours to return it.

Answer
If you purchased the vehicle on the dealership's premises, no.  The "three-day" rule only applies to off-site premises sales, such as a "tent event" at a shopping mall, or if they brought the car to your house and you signed the paperwork in your living room, for example.  If you signed the paperwork in the dealer's showroom, then you need to stop payment on the check, or call your credit-card company and contest the charge if you put the deposit on your credit-card.  This is assuming you haven't taken delivery of the vehicle; if you have, then all you can do is go back to the dealer and "beg for mercy," if you know what I mean.  Legally, a dealer doesn't have to take back a vehicle and refund any money at all.  See if they have something else you like and swap vehicles, which is possible of the dealer is a decent human being, and they haven't sent all the paperwork off to your states' motor-vehicle department.
