Tips on Buying Cars: Kia Sportage, carsurvey org, kia sportage

Question
My wife and I would like to purchase a spare car for the purpose of not having to run around scared after a possible car accident that would total one of our two cars. And I want a car with some cargo capacity anyway. So I wanted to ask your opinion on this offer:

The owner of the shop I bring my cars to is offering a 2002 Kia Sportage in good condition with a new engine for $3400.
Im kind of leary about kias in general but this seems like a good offer. Im not sure I would find another SUV at this price.

If you were me, would you look into this offer some more or stay away from the Sportage due to its tendency toward unreliability ? I realize this is a subjective question and am just looking for an opinion. The data for the Sportage was taken from carsurvey.org  Any insight you can provide would be appreciated. I am in the 95206 zip code.

Thank you,

Vic

Answer
Hi Vic

I am not a fan of any kia vehicle's along with any vehicle that has a re-build engine they just don't seem to run the same, however you don't get much for $3000. range in todays market.

I would consider the deal with a full 1yr written warranty supplied by the seller. If seller will not commit to warranty I would walk away.
