Tires: tire downsize?, dodge ram 1500, tire failures

I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 with bald p245-75r16 tires.  I just found a cheap set of P235-65r16 tires, but would it be dangerous to use them due to the reduced load-bearing capacity?  Thanks for your help.

You do not want to go there.  It is dangerous to go down in load carrying capacity - and that would be going down a lot.

You may hear that there isn't much of a risk, but the problem is that sometimes tire failures result in fatalities, and you really don't want to be part of that statistic.
