Tires: Tire Sizes, drastic mistake, tire sizes

Question
I replaced LT265 75R16D on my 2003 Silverado 1500HD Quad Cab with
P265 70R16D,Now,the Placard on the Drivers Side Door calls for LT245 75R16E,Was this a smart choice or did i make a DRASTIC mistake

Answer
Michael,

You might but it is a bit unclear.

If the letters "P" appear in front of the tire size, then the letter "D" shouldn't be applied behind.  I suspect you are right about the "P" and wrong about the "D".  If so, you did indeed make a drastic mistake.

The original tires had a load carrying capacity of 3042 # at 90 psi. The P265/70R16 have a load carrying capacity of 2275# - a 25% overload.

You should fix this right away.  The LT265/75R16 Load Range D's have enough capacity.
