Tires: Touring tires and road noise, proper inflation pressure, season tires

Question
Normally, I use Michelin all weather tires but have noticed more road noise at highway speeds.  I was told that touring tires would decrease the road noise.  Is this correct and what is the difference between a touring tire and all weather tires?

Answer
Rennett,

If your tires started at one noise level and increased over time, the most likely cause is irregular wear.  Prevention is the usual tire maintenance stuff:

Proper inflation pressure and regular checks.

Proper vehicle alignment

Regular tire rotation - 5K to 8K miles.

If you read into to this that I don't think your problem is all season tires, then you would be correct.

But the difference between all season and touring tires is pretty minor - and there is a ton of overlap.  Basically it is speed rating - S vs T - but that is not a solid indicator.  - AND - touring tires tend to be more performance oriented.  Notice that noise is not one of those differences.
