Tires: Old Ford 1-ton Tire Sizes, ford f 350, inflated tires

Question
I am looking at buying this coming year a Ford F-350 (non-dually) 4wd from the 1970-1979 model years.  I want to know what tire sizes came standard on this type of truck and how those sizes match today's conversion sizes offered now?  Also, what is the maximum amount of time a set of inflated tires can last up on the shelf (un-used spares) over the years?

Answer
Tim,

There were a variety of tire sizes - too numerous to list.  But what you'll want to look out for is 16.5" rim diameters.  Those are obsolete and you'll have to covert to 16" - and that means buying rims.  If you do that, then the total list shortens considerably - LT215/85R16 and LT235/85R16.

Old tires?  Anything older than 10 years should be tossed.

How do you tell how old the tires is?
