Tires: 2008 camry eating tires, alignment rack, target value

Question
Bought new 2008 camry that had Bridgestone Turenza EL400 on them. At 8K miles found out they were cupping and worn straight across and would need new one. Dealer checked alignment said all was ok- had to buy 4 new tires at 12K miles. I bought Pirelli P4 all weather tires - rotate everd 5k miles, balance , inflate and align all according to specs- Toyota said to call Bridgestone and vise versa- so I had to buy new tires. Now with 31,373 k miles on my car I need my 3rd set of tires before the winter - worn straight across. Went to dealer today - did an alignment- I had one done 4 k miles ago and the car was not that out but they did it free. No answer as to why this is happening - checked camber, struts and still no answer. I do not know what is going on neither do they - I hope you can give me some help. I do not drive like a teenager I am a mature adult. Please help with your experience I 'm sure I'll get a straight answer. Thank you.

Answer
Donna,

First, there is an alignment problem with your vehicle and the dealer isn't fixing it.  Find someone who specializes in alignments.

But 2 thoughts:

1)  The published alignment tolerances are too wide to ensure good tire wear - not the target value.  The allowable deviation from the target value.  Find a shop who agrees with that and you'll find someone who will do this job properly.

2)  Some vehicles don't have built-in adjustment - but that doesn't mean the alignment can't be adjusted.  I'll bet the dealer was following the "No adjustment possible - no adjustment needed!"  - and that is just plain wrong.  If you find the right alignment shop, then they will also know that there are ways of getting the alignment right on EVERY vehicle.  It may take a camber kit or an eccentric bolt, but it can and should be done.  No vehicle should leave an alignment rack out of spec! (Keeping in mind what I said in #1!)
