Tires: compatibible or replacement tires, st205 75r15, replacement tires

Question
I purchased a used camper and the tires are cracked and in need of replacement. They are 7.00-15LT load class C and Goodyear brand. I am having trouble finding any in the south Ga. area. Is there a compatible replacement tire that will be better or safer or what should I do. I have searched the web and can't find a answer to tire replacements. I have seen some advertised for 32.00 each but sounds like a scam. Others are at 150.00 each but that sounds really high.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

Answer
Michael,

First, I am going to assume that the camper is a trailer and not a powered RV.  If it is not a tailer, then what I am about to write would be incorrect.

A 7.00-15LT Load Range C is 8.0" wide on a 5½" rim, 29.6" in diameter and has a load carrying capacity of 1710# at 50 psi.

If what I wrote about the tire being a trailer, then an ST205/75R15 Load Range D is 8.0" wide on a 5½" rim with a diameter of 27.1", and has a load carrying capacity of 1930# at 65 psi (at the same operating conditions).

I should also tell you that many folks have been disappointed by the performance of their ST type trailer tires.  They are low profit items, so manufacturing cost becomes a major issue.  As a result, China is a major source of these.

I understand the Goodyear Marathons seem to be the best, but they do not come in a Load Range D in an ST205/75R15.  In spite of that, I'd still recommend those over other brands - with the provision that you inflate those to 60 psi.  Yes, I know that is more than the maximum written on the sidewall, but it is safe to do so, but why that is so requires a long explanation, so you'll have to trust me on this.
