Tires: tire for winter on my nissan xterra, nissan xterra, carrying capacity

My xterra weighs about 4400 lbs.It has 265-70-16 on it and I think thats a bit wide for winter.I notice that a 235-75-17 is the same diameter. In michelin the 235s are a 108T and the 265s are a 111T. Would this pose any problem in any way as far as handling? thanks duke

The rule is to never go down in load carrying capacity.

Besides, the difference between 265 and whatever you wind up with is small enough that it can be completely overwhelmed by a good tire pattern.

Personally, I'd stick with the original tire size.
