Tires: Snow tires, mark lore, snow tires

Question
We sell handicap equipped vans from Maine to Florida and have questions about snow tires on FWD versus RWD, 2 tires or 4, and then suggestions on type. Also, I would be willing to offer expert advice when it comes to handicap equipment on all vehicles. Mark Lore

Answer
Mark,

I don't think you've asked a question, but I can give you some basics:

1)  It doesn't matter if the vehicle is FWD, RWD, AWD, 4X4 - there should be 4 winter tires applied to these vehicles.

2)  What works in a given area has more variations than can be dealt with.  This is so highly dependent on the weather, road conditions, etc. that it is best to consult with locals to see what works.  Ice, snow, slush, freezing rain, all require different types of winter tires.

3)  Be sure that your additions result in a vehicle that when fully loaded does not exceed the  vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.  It's always best to over-estimate than to have an overloaded vehicle.  It's also best to start off with too big a vehicle.

I hope this helps.
