Tires: winter tires and rims that will fit my 2010 rogue, honda rims, mag rims

Question
Hi!
I have a 2010 Nissan Rogue SL awd and would like winter tires and rims for it. The original tires I have on it are 225/60R17 98V; 5-114 bolt pattern
1) will 225/65R17 with honda rims fit on my rogue?
The other option:
2)Will 255/55R 17 with aluminum mag rims fit?

I don't know anything about tires and rims. Please help

Answer
Dear Jess,
First, let's compare the overall diameters of the tires:
P225/60R17 = 27.64"
P225/65R17 = 28.74"
P255/55R17 = 28.27"
(measurements are according to The Tire & Rim Assn. standards)
As you can see, the 225/65 is 1.1" larger in overall diameter compared to the original tires on your Nissan Rogue, and outside of the generally acceptable limits for replacement tires. This difference may also exceed that recommended by your vehicle owner's manual.  The 225/55 is somewhat smaller in O.A.D., but considerably wider, and I can't predict if rubbing or vehicle body interference issues will result.  As for the wheels, assuming that their bolt pattern and 'bolt circle' are identical, the wheel 'off set' will have to be correct.  Wheel 'off set' is the distance from the wheel's mounting surface to the centerline between the rim flanges.  The off set will determine if the wheel 'centers' either more inboard or outboard on your car.  Only a trial fitment will determine if it is correct.  One more thing: if the aluminum mag wheel that you refer to is an imported aftermarket (not OE level) wheel, you'll have to make sure that it is stamped for a load rating at least equal to the max. load rating of the tire that you intend to mount on it.  All wheels should be stamped with a max. load rating.  The tire also has the max. load rating engraved on the sidewall.
Hope this helps.
