Tires: tire pressure, joe rosato, tire placard

Question
Nobody has given me a good answer to this one.

Should  you pressureize your vehicle tires to the specifications on the door tag data founnd on the driver's side door frame , or should you go by the pressure listed on the tire itself ?.

Thankyou for your time on this matter.

sincerely
Joe Rosato

Answer
Joe,

Assuming you have the same tire size as listed on the vehicle tire placard, you should use the pressure listed on the placard.  The vehicle manufacturer spent a lot of time deciding what to put there, all his handling and ride testing was done at that pressure, and the regulations require that pressure to be correct or the vehicle is subject to recall.

The tire, on the other hand, the tire manufacturer didn't know what vehicle the tire was going on, plus the pressure listed on the sidewall is a MAXIMUM - even says so.
