Tires: tire wear, 2007 toyota avalon, toyota avalon

Question
I have a 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited that has chewed up 2 sets of tires in 60,000 miles. The factory tire was a Michelin(I don't remember designation) which was replaced by Goodyear Assurance. I have had Assurance on more than one of my work vehicles and received 50-70,000 miles of service from them. The tire dealer says the alignment is fine, but the factory setting will chew up tires because it is set to give good performance. He says there is nothing he can do to change it. I live in a very rural area, and all miles are on the highway. What gives?

Answer
Tom,

It's a little unclear what the tire wear looks like, but taking an educated gues, I'll bet the problem is one sided wear.  I think this is a camber problem.

If that is so, then you need to find someone who will custom align your vehicle for you - in particular, reduce the amount of camber - and I recommend less than one degree.

Here's a link to my web site that explains why I think this.
