Tires: Trailer Tires, inflation pressure, trailer tires

Question
I currently have 7-14.5MH tires on my 4x8 single axle trailer that I need to replace. The load max  printed on the tire is 1800lbs. Is that per tire? total of 3600 on the trailer?? I really need more capacity. what can I replace them with? Thanks!

Answer
David,

Yes, what is written on the sidewall of a tire applies to only one tire.

There are 7-14.5MH tires available in higher load ranges, plus 14.5MH tires in larger sizes and all have higher load carrying capacities.

For example:  A 7-14.5MH is a tire that was designed to transport mobile homes (the "MH")  They come in Load Range D (8 PR, with a load carrying capacity of 1875# at 70 psi), Load Range E (10 PR, 2095# @ 85 psi), and Load Range F (12 PR, 2335# @ 100 psi).

Also there are 8-14.5MH and 9-14.5MH tires, but these are larger in width and diameter and may interfere with the fenders and bodywork of the trailer.

One of the other problems is the higher inflation pressure.  It is quite possible the rims will not be able to stand up to higher pressures (and loads).

Frankly, a 4X8 foot trailer with a 3600# gross weight sounds about right.  I think you ought to consider a trailer designed specifically for more load capacity.
