Tires: tire conversion, tire info, carrying capacity

Question
so i have a 1968 rambler american and i've been needing to buy some tires for it. i want some wide coker white walls but i cant find any in the size i need. so i was wondering if a E78-14 would fit on a 695-14? and whats the difference between the two?

Answer
Kevin,

A 6.95-14 has a section width of 7.00" on a 5" rim and an overall diameter of 25.30" and a load carrying capacity of 1120# at 32 psi.

An E78-14 has a section width of 7.65" on a 5½" rim and an overall diameter of 26.00" with a load carrying capacity of 1400# at 32 psi.

So the difference is that an E78-14 is wider by 5/8", taller by 3/4" and has 280# more load carrying capacity at 32 psi.

BTW, according to Tire Guides a 1968 Rambler American came with both 4½" and 5½" rims, so you'll need to check to see which you have.  I am pretty sure the 4½" is too narrow for the E78-14.

And lastly, I can not tell if there is enough room in the fenderwells for the larger tire.  Info like that is rare even on current vehicle.
