Tires: Tire Pressure, inflation pressure, air pressure

Question
Hello!
I want to ask if it's normal for your tires to constantly be losing air pressure, especially in the colder weather? It seems like every week I have to put air in my tires because they're down about 20 - 30 lbs. The tires still have good tread on them and just passed state inspection, but I don't understand why they keep losing so much air pressure all the time. Thank you!

Answer
Susan,

Tires generally will lose up to 1 psi a month.  Anything more than that and they should be inspected to find the source of the leak.  with what you've described, this is the rims that are leaking from corrosion - and typically between the tire and the rim.

But be aware that inflation pressure is sensitive to ambient temperature - about 1 psi per 10ºF
