Tires: symmetric tires mounted inside out, pirelli scorpion, bmw x3

Question
hello I have a BMW x3 with 9000 miles on Pirelli scorpion srts. that are symmetric pattern. the dealer that i purched them from installed them with the outside markings on the inside (all tires the same). Be for going to the dealer to have them corrected, do you think after 9000 miles being inside out there is any damage done to the tread,or should i maybe leave them as is. Thank You for your help   Joe

Answer
Joe,

Your question is a little confusing.

Symmetrical tires are those that are the same one side versus the other side.  In other words, there is no side that is supposed to be out.

Asymmetrical tires have a different pattern on the inside compared to the outside.  This will be marked with a "This Side Out" or words to that effect.

I suspect you have asymmetrical tires - and in case you have, then there is probably no long term damage to the tires being mounted backwards.  However, you ought to get them mounted correctly.

In the case of symmetrical tires, it doesn't matter which side is out.
