Tires: mixing directional tyres with non directional tyres, directional tyres, directional tires

Question
hi, my question to you is, can i put a directional tyre on my car with three non directional tyres. if so is it acceptable for an mot.

Answer
Don,

The best situation is to have 4 of the same exact tire in all 4 positions - and exact means size, manufacturer, tread pattern, speed rating and state of wear.  The further you are away from that, the more likely you are to have problems.

It is also recommended that if it is better to have tires as pairs on an axle.

In the case of a single tire, this is even more of an issue than with a air of tires, as vehicles tend to pivot around the odd tire.

Needless to say, directional tires would be different than non-directional, and there may be even more to it than just the directionality!

But MOT is a UK only issue and since this is an international answer forum, it is impossible to know what the laws are everywhere.
