Tires: 1990 Buick Century Tires, tire placard, tire guides

Question
Will 185 65 r14 tires from fleet farm fit onto my 1990 Buick Century?

Answer
Joel,

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

BTW, it doesn't matter who makes the tire or what pressure is listed on the tire's sidewall, if the tire size is the same as the placard, then the pressure listed on placard is also appropriate.

According to Tire Guides - a book that summarizes vehicle tire placards - a 1990 Buick Century originally came with P185/75R14's inflated to 35 psi.  If that is what your vehicle's tire placard says, then what you have proposed is going down in load carrying capacity and that increases the risk of a load related tire failure which sometimes has tragic results.

I recommend against this.

Nevertheless, please check the tire placard to be sure my assumptions are correct.
