Tires: care and life of a tire, store tires, cold climate

Question
I recently received a set of Goodyear Supercar F1 EMT's with a production date of 0906.....I realize that they were made in 06, and I paid 175.00 ea new.  Not Blems/seconds or used but, just starting to get a tad long in the tooth.  I won't need them for about a year or so.  What is the proper way to store them and do I have any major concerns with the age and running them on my ZO6?  I do not track the car and it is used as a daily driver, with occassional bits of foolishness on the highway.   Thanks for a great and informative site Barry.

Answer
Rick,

The proper way to store tires is in a plastic bag filled with nitrogen, in a cool, dry, dark place away from sources of UV light and ozone as well as contaminants.  Avoid such things as electric motors, welding, heating units, oil, fuel, etc.

Obvious this is an idea condition and the closer you can get to that, the better.

Recent bulletins from the tire industry indicate that tires degrade simply due to time.  The age of a tire is important even if the tire is unused.  There some disagreement over how to best express this age limitation, but my take is:

If you live in a hot climate (AZ, CA, NV, TX, and FL) then the limit is six years.  If you live in a cold climate (MN, ND, WI, MT, etc), then the limit is 10 years.  States in between are  ..... ah ........ in between.

If you know where your tire came from, that would help in your decision of what to do next.
