Tires: Life of tires, gut feelings, actual facts

Question
Why does your "expert" state that it does not really matter how old tires are? This is patently wrong and leads to the sale of tires which will fail at relatively low mileage. If you are truly experts you should deal with reality.

Answer
John,

A couple of thoughts:

First, I agree with you.

Second, the "experts" at this web site are self-appointed and self-policed.  This leads to situations where there may be differences of opinion - and sometimes those opinions are based more on gut feelings than actual facts.

Third, you have 2 tools to use to "correct" those self-appointed "experts".  One is the ratings they receive.  I don't think it is fair to "set them up".  I've had this happen to me a couple of times and this doesn't lend itself to a "learning experience".

But I do think it is fair to use the second tool - feedback (also known as "Add to this Answer").  In this way, there is an opportunity to comment on the answer provided.

And last, but not least, sometimes the context of a question changes the way a response is worded.  In instances like you've pointed out, sometimes a tire's age is not judged to be important to the situation - and whether you agree or not may depend on how you view the particular situation.
