Tires: Tire load ratings, LT Tires Load Range

Question
I have a Jeep Wrangler 4-Door and recently purchased some all terrain tires.  I noticed before they put them on that they were load rated "E"; thats all they had on hand.  The dealer told me it was a better tire and it would be fine.  I'm wondering if I made a good decision or should I have waited and got "D" rated tires?

Answer
Randy,

The load carrying capacity of LT tires is partially indicated by the size and partially indicated by the Load Range.  Larger sizes and higher Load Ranges (further down the alphabet) indicate more capacity.

So a Load Range E has more capacity than a Load Range D - albeit at a higher pressure.

You can use Load range E's in all situations where a Load Range D is specified.  (The reverse is not true.)
