Tires: replacement tires, 1958 ford fairlane, ford fairlane 500

Question
I have a vintage 1958 Ford Fairlane 500. It has 8.00-14, white  wall tires. I'd like to replace them with steel belted radials if possible. I'd also like to use the same wheels, if I can. Is there a 14" SB replacement? If not, what are my alternatives? Thanks.

Answer
Richard,

According to Tire Guides a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 originally came with 8.00-14's inflated to 24 psi front / 22 psi rear on 5" rims with an option of 8.50-14 with the same inflation pressure and rim size.

Unfortunately, modern steel belted radial tires that have enough load carrying capacity do not fit on such a narrow rim.

So I would advise that you either find a wider rim - at least a 5 1/2" - or plan to use the original size.
