Tires: steering wheel vibration, roush mustang, wheel vibration

Question
My 08 Roush Mustang steering wheel vibrates when I reach 60mph.  Could this be caused by bad tires or wheels?  The Ford dealer has aligned it, rotated the tires, and changed the cam and castors which helped a lot with the pulling I was experiencing.  Help, I love my car, but something just isn't right.

Answer
Audrey,

It is quite likely the tires.

When you had the alignment done and they changed the camber and caster, they should have also changed the toe.  Radial tires are real sensitive to toe.  If the toe is off, then you'll develop irregular wear - which in turn causes a noise or a vibration.

Are the front tires the same size as the backs?  I'll bet not, then the front tires - the ones with the irregular wear - are still in a position to set off a vibration in the steering wheel.

You kind of have 2 choices:  Live with it until the tires develop a new and smoother wear pattern.  This may take some time - months - and it's quite possible that they are too far gone to recover.

The second choice is to replace them.
