Tires: mixing tire brands, freedom plan, tire brands

Question
When having my tires rotated today, I was told one of the tires had steel belting showing in an area and I opted to get a new tire.  I have Bridgestone  Insignia on the car now and was told they no longer make the tire I have.  I was given a GoodRide TypeGRC008.  Now, if I am reading correctly, this site is stating that mixing tire brands is not good and can cause problems with pivoting.  Am I understanding that correctly?   Should I go back to the dealer and advise that I want another Bridgestone?   I am covered under their Freedom Plan Road Hazard.  Thank you for any info and advice you can give me.  BYW, I am a 73 year old widow, winging all this on my own.

Answer
Gloria,

You need to read the details of the plan and see what is covered and what is not.  Then determine what the cost is going to be.  Then base your decision on that.

As I've said, in emergency situations, cars tend to pivot around odd tires.  The question for you is:  Is the cost going to be worth the reduction in risk?
