Tires: Proper pressure for 205/40/R17 tires on a Honda Civic LX 1996, honda civic lx, tire placard

Question
What is the proper pressure for 205/40/R17 tires on a Honda
Civic LX 1996? I just bought it and it came with there
tires, I checked the placard on my car with the proper
pressure and it says that I should inflated to 29 psi in the
front and 30 psi in the rear, but I know those not apply to
the tires I have now. I appreciate any help...

Answer
Jairo,

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

Since you don't live in US, the placard situation may be slightly different.  But Tire Guides say a 1996 Honda Civic LX originally came with P185/65R14's inflated to 30 front / 29 rear - which is different than what you've stated.  Please check the placard again to sure, because what I am about to write is based on the Tire Guide info being correct.

In order to carry the same load, a 205/40R17 needs to use 35 psi front / 34 psi rear.  But since this is such a low aspect ratio, you might consider using more pressure to protect the rims from damage.  I'd recommend 3 to 5 psi more.
