Tires: Michelin Zero-Pressure Tire Warranty - Need replacement at 28K miles!, zero pressure tires, mileage warranty

Question
Our Michelin zero-pressure tires already require replacement at 28K mileage/27 months.  We've had the tires rotated every 6000 miles or less, and kept them inflated to manufacturer's specifications.  Is it realistic to need to replace these tires so soon, and are we covered by the warranty?
The warranty is not understandable -- "If a Michelin Self-Supporting Zero Pressure tire becomes unservicable due to a workmanship or materials condition after the free replacement period (24 months), Michelin will furnish a comparable ... tire on a pro rata basis, up to 6 years from the date of purchase."

Answer
Holly,

There are a lot of reasons why a tire might not deliver the miles you might expect:  Vehicle misalignment, short trips, etc.

If you bought your tires as part of the vehicle - or your warranty says nothing about "Treadwear" or "Warranted Miles", then there is no mileage warranty and what you get is what you get.

You could call Michelin's 800 number and try to negotiate something, but be aware, that if you bought the tires as part of a new car, then the vehicle manufacturer chose NOT to include mileage as a warrantable item and as part of the design specs when they negotiated the price with Michelin and Michelin is under no obligation to do anything about a tire that wears rapidly.
