Tires: tire pressure, tire placard, tire guides

Question
i recently bought a 1993 Suburban C1500 with LT265/75R16 tire size. what is the ideal tire pressure?  how big a wheel can i put without changing any suspension components?  thanks for your help!

Answer
Sal,

Tire Guides says that a 1993 Chevy Suburban C1500 originally came with P235/75R15 XL inflated to 35 psi front / 41 psi rear.  You need to check this against the placard, because what I am about to write depends on that information being correct.

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

So if the information is correct, to get the same load carrying capacity, an LT265/75R16 needs to be inflated to ..... well, the pressure it calculates out to be is smaller than I think the minimum for an LT should be, so I would recommend using the minimum, which is 35 psi and in order to maintain the pressure split front to rear for handling purposes, the rears ought to be 41 psi.
