Tires: different tire size, dodge grand caravan, tire placard

Question
hello i drive a 2003 dodge grand caravan my regular tire size is 215/70/15 but the other day when it went in the shop they put 205/70/15 on the front. I want to know if this is ok or what it may do to my vehicle!

Answer
Gregg,

This is going down in load carrying capacity and that increases the risk of a load related tire failure, which sometimes has tragic consequences.  This is a safety issue.

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

If the placard shows the P205/70R15, then you are OK.  If not, then drive back to the tire shop, show them the placard and demand they put on the proper tire size.
