Tires: tire manufacture date - again, 4 digits, dot code

Question
Help identify tire manufacture date as I have numbers letters mixed. I understand there is suppose to be 3 or 4 numbers, have letters been added back?  as mine have both.

(tire) Bridgestone/Turanza EL 400-02
DOT V6T2PM6  Date codes for 4 new tires -
D551  and  D57D  and  F921 and  D531

Answer
S,

I think need to look on the other side of the tires.

Below the line is my standard write up on the DOT code.

So you captured the first part - and allow my to decode it for you:

V6 = is ... Well .... Let's just say the tire was manufactured in Mexico

T2 = P205/55R16

PM6 = Well, that is a code assigned by Bridgestone and only they can decode it for you - which they probably won't, except to say it is some version of an EL400.

And the rest is not according to the coding structure - and makes no sense.  I'll bet it is not immediately after the rest of the lettering.

So look on the other side and I am sure you will find the date code.

First locate the letters "DOT" on the sidewall of the tire.  Nearby will be the DOT code.  DOT codes are 10 to 12 digits long.  BTW the digits can be numbers or letters.

The first 2 digits are a code for the manufacturing plant.

The next 2 digits are a code for the tire size.

The next 3 or 4 digits are a code for the type of tire.

The last 3 or 4 digits are the date code.  The format is week/week/year/year or week/week/year.  These are always numbers.

Starting in the year 2000, the date coding used was 4 digits.  That means the largest number you should see for the year is 09.  Before 1999 the format was 3 digits.  1999 and 2000 are transition years, so you will find both 3 and 4 digits.

The date code only has to be on one side – and it is permissible for there to be a partial DOT code, so long as one side has the complete code.
