Tires: all terrain tires, jeep wrangle, all terrain tires

Question
I own a Jeep Wrangle. What is the difference between all terrain and all season tires? I live in Colorado and need something that will handle the snow. Which tire would be best for our weather?  Hannah

Answer
Hannah,

All tires are a compromise.

All season tires compromise dry and wet weather traction for some level of snow traction.  All Terrain tires compromise dry and wet traction to get better off road ability - and it turns out that also results in improved snow traction.

All Terrain tires will be better suited for off road and snow conditions than all season tires.  But all terrain tires will not perform as well on the street.

What would be best for Colorado weather?  In winter, winter tires!!  In summer, summer tires.

But if you can't afford 2 sets of tires, then all terrain, but be aware that traveling at 70 mph on all terrain tires is not what they were intended for.
