Tires: 215 tires on 225 rims, saab 9000 aero, aero rim

Question
I had my summer tires exchanged for winter tires yesterday - they said that 215 tires would fit on a 225 standard Saab Aero rim - issue is - woke up this morning - 4 flat tires...
I asked the question and the tire dealer said it was OK - the fact that I have flat tires would make me think otherwise...

Answer
Hans,

There is a bunch of important information missing from your post.

What is the year of your Saab Aero - and it's a 9000 Aero right?

But that can't be right, because a 1998 Saab 9000 Aero came with 205/55R16's.  So you must have a later version (like a 9-5) that came with 17" tires - 225/45R17 90W- and those had 7" wide rims.

If that is true, then what was the tire size that was put on?  In order to get the same load carrying capacity, then you need to have a 215/50R17 90W.  The allowable rim width range for a 215/50R17 is 6 to 7 1/2.

But aside from that, the width of a rim - even extremely narrow or extremely wide  -  usually doesn't result in flat tires.  There is something else that caused that.  Leaky tire valves?  Extreme drop in temperature overnight?  Look for something the is common amoung all 4 tires and see if you have a leak.
