Tires: Tire Repair, punctures, tire store

Question
I have tire punctured twice (nail and screw). The punctures were about 3 inches apart. The tire store advisor told me the tire could not be repaired.  He said that because the punctures were close to each other, the repair would cause the tire to separate.

Your thoughts.

Thank!

Answer
Dan,

I agree with the advisor.  Punctures are discontinuities in the material and while repairs are OK, there is a certain amount of risk in operating a tire with a repair - and having repairs close together is taking a bit more risk than I think is prudent.  Sometimes the consequences are tragic.
