Tires: Fuel efficient tires, treadwear, fuel economy

Question
Is there much difference in fuel effieiency of different tires and which are the best?

Answer
Merle,

There are differences between tires in regards to fuel consumption.

Here's a piece on the subject:

Please note that improving a tire's rolling resistance is gained by sacrificing traction or treadwear - or both.

As I explained in the article, it is hard to tell which are best, because there isn't a standardized test and different tests will give different numerical results.  So unless you are sure the tests are the same, comparisons are fruitless.

The only thing I can say for sure is that tires with high UTQG traction values - A or AA, and tires with high UTQG treadwear values - say 400 and up - are not going to be good for fuel economy.
