Tires: Tires, jaguar x type, doorpost

Question
what is the differences between 225/45/17 vs. 225/55/17 tires for AWD (Jaguar X-type), will this cause damage on car?  Thanks!

Answer
Wen,

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the vehicle placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

You should use the tire size listed on the placard.  It has enough load carrying capacity and will physically fit under the fenderwells.

If my book is correct, some Jaguar X-types came with 225/45R17's.  Anything larger than that (like a 225/55R17) might not fit under the fenderwells.

Oh, and rule of thumb!  On AWD, all 4 tires should be the same brand, model, and state of wear in order to prevent damage to the drivetrain.
