Tires: Tire/wheel size, wheels and tires, 16 wheels

Question
Hi,
On my wifes 2006 Toyota XLE 2WD minivan we have P225/60R17 Yokohama all-season (3-season!) tires and will be putting on 4 winter tires soon. I am planning to put on new rims as well for simple switching with the seasons. A dealer told me to go with 16" wheels and tires for winter to save significant dollars since the 17" is kinda rare. Will a 16" rim have any impact on the van's handling, performance, speedo, etc. since it came with 17" OEM? Good idea or bad?

Any recommendations on good winter tires while I am here?
Thank you for the help.

Answer
Dave,

I don't see any problem with a 16" rim.  You will need to assure that the overall diameter of the tire remains the same.  A reputable dealer will be able to provide you this info.  By keeping the same diameter you will not affect any of the characteristics that you mentioned.

I like the Blizzak line from Bridgestone for winter use.
