Our other trailers had Carlisle and we had several blowouts with damage to our trailers. What gives with and who is resonable for replacement. This has been an on going problelm for us with different trailers. Nomad, Wanderer,Stellar. Is there a dependable tire out there? Please help us.

Answer
Jana,

I have never been able to completely figure this out, but it seems the problem exists regardless of who makes the tire.  This lead me to believe the trailer manufacturers are undersizing the tires.

Here's my thinking:  The load carrying capacity of a tire assumes fairly ideal conditions.  Most tires don't operate in ideal conditions so the tire has to be oversized a certain amount to account for these less than ideal conditions.  That's the way car manufacturers size tires and it ought to be the way trailer manufacturers size tires.  In fact, there are some trailers where the tires are grossly too small - to the point where it is illegal.  But the government never investigates this, because compared to cars, there just aren't enough trailer problems to get their attention.

So I tend to think that trailers ought to have a minimum of a 10% reserve capacity in the tires - and 15% ought to be standard.
