Question
ok i have a 1998 eclipse gs..i want to put 17" wheels on it but many of the those wheels will only fir a p215 tire..i know the stock size is p205 will a p215 fit?

Answer
Tyler,

The 17" replacement size for your car is P205/45R17.  This size tire can be installed on rims with a width range 6.5" - 7.5".  I'm not sure what size you are referring to a P215/45R17 or a P215/40R17 either way these tire sizes call for rim widths of 7.5" - 8.5".

So, if your rim widths fall in these ranges then as for the tire Yes, it fit the rim. For example: if the rim you choose is 7" then any of these sizes will fit. However, if you choose to use one of the P215 sizes then you will need to assure that you have the proper fender well clearances by installing and bolting a tire/rim on one of your front wheel positions.  Assure that your dealer will allow you to do this first, as when installing low profile tires in many cases, it's yours if it's installed on a rim.
