Tires: tire age, wharehouse, tire life

Question
I am a sales rep for Toyota. Today I sold a preowned truck it is a 2007 with 3252 miles on it. later after the sale the customer called me to tell me that the tires that are on the truck are out of date. She continued to tell me that there is a 6 year age limit even if in a wharehouse. Is there any truth to this?

Answer
Craig,

As for a hard and fast rule about tire life while warehoused the jury is still out on that.  I am not aware of any written or implied rule of this nature.

On a personal note, I will NOT sale or utilize a tire that is over four years old for safety reasons.  As for your customer, ask yourself if you would or would you allow your family to ride on these tires.
