Tires: Large size wheels/rims, wheel and tire package, wheels rims

Question
I am currently looking for new rims for my 2000 Ford Mustang GT. I found a good deal on a wheel and tire package that will fit. The wheels are 17x9 for the front and 18x10 in the back. I currently have 16x7 wheels on my car. My question is, is it true that if you buy larger wheels for your car, you may encounter transmission problems in the future?

Answer
Tim,

There is an element of truth to this.

Some vehicles are sensitive to tire diameter and oversizing the tire may cause abnormal stresses in the drivetrain.  Plus, low aspect ratio tires tend to transmit more of road input back up the drivetrain.  This isn't good for the transmission.

This is a matter of degree rather than kind.  Think of it as increased risk, so adjust your driving to compensate.
