Tires: Tires - 2005 Ford Taurus, 2005 ford taurus, ford taurus

Question
Is the P205/60-R16 the "wrong size" tire for a 2005 Ford Taurus or do you have to use P215/60-R16?

Could the P205 randomly fall off the vehicle after having been driven over 4000 miles since the installation of the tire? What could cause something like that to happen?

Answer
Karla,

The proper tire size for a 2005 Taurus is P215/60R16.  To use a tire smaller than that not only causes loss of fuel economy and more engine wear, but it also increases the risk of a load related tire failure.

Tires don't randomly fall off the car.  The lug nuts might come off - and there are a wide variety of reasons why that might occur.

So without more of a description, I can't really tell why this might happen.

But nevertheless - if you bought the tires less than 4,000 miles ago - take the vehicle back and insist that they put the proper tire size on the vehicle.

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker - commonly called the placard - that will list the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box, but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

Find that sticker and when you go back to where you bought the tires, point out that FORD put that sticker on the car and they better match that tire size or you will file a claim in small claims court.  Insist they do this with no cost to you.
