Tires: DOT, last four digits, distribution transportation

Question
QUESTION: If I were to purchase new tires today, what would the DOT read?

ANSWER: Heather,

A DOT number has many letters that mean different things.  If your concern is current production dates then the last four digits should read 0107 to the current week of this year 3?07...hard to keep up with the weeks when your not in the production environment anymore.

If this doesn't help Heather you can copy the DOT's and send them to me here and I can tell you everything about the tire.

Hope this helps,

Brett

QUESTION: Thanks for your help.  I am concerned about some new tires i had put on last Saturday, the 20th.  The DOT read 0708, which is the 7th week of the year 08.  If i were to purchase new tires from Good Year tomorrow, shouldn't the DOT read a more recent week number?

Answer
Heather,

No, the tires that even Factory stores stock are not going to be "Factory Fresh" due to production and distribution constraints.

Think of this: Factory, Company warehousing, Order Pick(FIFO) and Distribution, Transportation to local distribution, Transportation to store, FIFO or first in, first out from retailer inventory and you can see that tires don't simply leave the plant and go to the retail stores.

I watched some of the broadcasts and unfortunately the media made it seem a SIMPLE process.
