Tires: Vibrations & Tires, Tire Vibration

Question
I recently had new tires put on my 2002 BMW 525i, prior to which I had no vibrations.  After Sears put the tires on, it has vibrated TERRIBLY!! They told me that I had three bent wheels and that by putting new tires on bent rims, I would continue to have that vibration unless I replaced the wheels.  Since I didn't have the vibrations until the new tires, I'm not sure what happened.  Did Sears bend the wheels when putting on the new tires?  Could the new tires be defective in some way that causes this TERRIBLE vibration?  Help!  I'm so frustrated.  I cannot even drive the car because the vibration is so bad that it gives me a headache and makes my voice quiver if I talk while driving it.

Thanks,

Christy

Answer
Christy,

You should go back to Sears and tell them you want new tires - a different brand.

While it is possible that the rims are bent, it's more likely it is the tires that are the problem.

BTW, ask if they have a GSP9700.  It's a balance machine that can sort out if the problem is the tires or the rims.  If they don't, tell them they need to get one.
