Tires: Michelin Tires Tread Wear Out, Tire Alignment, Tire Wear

Question
I only had 20K on my Michelin Destiny tires for my Nissan Maxima and the inside of the front tires were very badly worn. Had them rotated 8K miles ago and the tread was fine. Had wheel alignment, slightly out. Tire dealer said it was probably due to alignment. Can tires lose the inside tread that fast in 8,000 miles or could I have defective tires???

Answer
Renee,

There are a number of situations here:

First is that tires generally look OK until just before wear conditions show up - whether it is irregular wear, uneven wear, etc.  On top of that, people have a tendancy not to pay attention to their tires, leaving some folks with the idea that everything was fine, then "all of a sudden" .....

But it is possible for the misalignment to cause tires to wear fairly rapidly - and 8,000 miles is longer than you might think.

I would say the alignment was the issue.
