Tires: tire upgrade, mitsubishi montero sport, mitsubishi montero

Question
I drive a 1999 mitsubishi montero sport xls. I currently carry
235/75r15. I read on a tire website that an optional tire size
265/70r15 can also be used. What are the pros and cons of making this upgrade?

Answer
Gary,

You can not make this change unless you also change the rims.  The P265/70R15 came with a 7" rim as part of the package.

But generally, the tires are more expensive, more prone to hydroplaning, have less snow traction, consume more fuel, but have more dry traction, and ride better.  But all of this is very subject to the old tire vs new tire thing.  Careful selction of the tire can minimize the difference.
