Tires: Warranty, www michelin, warranty question

Question
QUESTION: I was told by a tires dealer that if I buy only two Michelin, or Cooper tires and have them installed on the front of my vehicle, the warranty will be void.
It was explained that if I brake with two new tires on the front, the rear could slide around causing more risk for an accident because the tires are more worn on the back. This can't possibly be true can it. I was also told its the law. I life in Iowa.
Please help clear this up!
Thanks
John

ANSWER: Yes this is true.

I want you to go to:

www.michelin.com

Under Tire Care & Buying Guide

click on

How to Buy

Go to the bottom where it says

Install two new tires on the rear axle

And click on the short video.

You will see that new tires go on the rear no matter what kind of car or truck.  Front or rear wheel.
This prevents the rear from kicking out on you which will cause a spin out.

QUESTION: Interesting. But will it void warranty, and is it law? I'm very curious about loss of steering control, in wet and snowy conditions. I understand their theory, however I believe I can come up with conditions where one might want the control on the front. ie steering.

Answer
I have never heard of it voiding a warranty.  I would ask for proof where it says that.
As for the law, you need to contact your state's house.

However, your theory is wrong.

Steering with new tires on the front will cause a spin.

I have tested this theory on a test track with new tires on just the front and just the back.  Wet and dry track.  If you put new tires on the front, you will spin out.
If the other person insurance company is any good, you will pay out big thing and if your insurance company finds out, that could be a problem for you.

There is no condition where new tires will work better on the front for any reason.
